SOMETIMES, GETTING BANNED IS GOOD ADVERTISING!

Working in the industry, one of the most unwanted outcomes is having your ad(s) get banned by those who have the power to do so. Because that means days, months, sometimes years of your hard work has gone to waste. The reasons vary: violating community guidelines, causing offence, doing harm, etc.

Some ads, of course, deserve a ban since they intentionally do it for nefarious reasons. But we can’t assume they all do. Some are simply challenging what needs questioning and what, ultimately, might make a meaningful impact on society, the industry and people’s lives.

That tension shaped the Donut Session led by our Co-Founder and Creative Director, Viet Anh (VA), as he explored how ads can win awards and prove their impact. But still get banned! So, what does that tell us about the role advertising plays in society?
